Start with the playing inventory

The number on a retail box is not a complete manufacturing specification. A buyer should approve both the active playing inventory and every extra tile. This avoids a set that looks complete in a photograph but lacks the right combination of suits, flowers and jokers.

The 152-tile breakdown

There are three suits: dots, bams and craks. Each has four copies of numbers one through nine, giving 36 tiles per suit and 108 in total. Add four copies of each of four winds, four copies of each of three dragons, eight flowers and eight jokers.

What changes in a larger retail set?

Extra jokers, blanks or flowers may bring the packaged count above 152. Do not transfer one brand’s extra-tile formula to every product with the same total.

Write a better OEM brief

List each tile face, its quantity and whether it is used in play or supplied as a spare. Keep the inventory on the artwork proof, sample checklist and packing document. Confirm what a blank looks like, whether it can receive a replacement design and how extras are separated in the case.

A useful approval test

Count the physical sample against the inventory line by line. Then remove the extras and check the 152 playing tiles separately. An annual rules card is a separate item: do not reproduce it on an insert or imply it is included unless legitimate supply is specifically arranged.

Reconcile artwork and packing records

Give each face a stable identifier and keep that identifier on the artwork schedule and packing checklist. A total count can be correct while the identity distribution is wrong. Check each group before separating spares, and make sure the approved sample includes every supplied item. If a buyer changes the extra-tile allocation, revise the schedule rather than editing only the retail headline.

For a club, a repeatable tray or reset photograph can help volunteers return the kit to its agreed state. For a retailer, the same schedule becomes the basis of the customer-facing contents list. Neither replaces a physical count. They make the count easier to reproduce and help support staff identify exactly what a customer believes is missing.

Compare two offers with the same inventory

Ask both suppliers to quote the same playing list, spare list and packaging scope. If one offer contains more extras, record the difference as a line item rather than treating the larger number as automatically better. Decide whether the extras are useful for your customer, and whether matching replacement stock matters. A larger printed total is not a measure of craftsmanship.

The manufacturer’s MOQ refers to a commercial order unit, while 152, 160 and 166 describe tile contents. Keep those concepts separate in the inquiry.
